Dearest Olivia

When I started to tell people about the decision of quitting my full time job to pursue life as a freelancer, most were enthusiastic while others just asked why? Through their eyes I could see the confusion about my choice to leave a steady, well-paid position, amazing benefits and the reliability of always receiving a paycheck. I can totally understand why some would be confused about that but for me it was easy.

I wanted freedom and time for myself to focus on the things I love about graphic design. Both of my full-time positions left me with experience and amazing relationships but they never satisfied my creativity. I struggled to find enjoyment with the work I was designing and felt uninspired after constantly being expected to deliver work I didn't love. As thankful I am for both of those positions, they also made me realize what I don't want to be doing as a forever career.

I've come to the conclusion that what I needed most was variety and flexibility.

After working full time for four years, nine to five everyday, I've come to the conclusion that what I needed most was variety and flexibility. Some days I would be sitting at my desk falling asleep because of how bored my mind felt staring at the computer screen. I started work feeling angry and left work feeling angry which would then take it's toll on my personal relationships (my apologies to the boyfriend).

Today marks the end of my first week as a freelancer and so far I am loving the freedom. I set my daily schedule based on how I feel which plays a huge role on my creativity. Somedays I work better early in the morning and others I do better in the evenings. It has been my favorite quality of being a freelance designer and I am embracing it day by day. I feel inspired and motivated to work on all the projects I've been wanting to pursue for the longest time and can't wait to show them to everyone.

Thanks for reading, please follow along as I continue to write more about the freelance life, personal projects and much more. Stay tuned lovelies.
